Don’t make stuff because you want to make money — it will never make you enough money. And don’t make stuff because you want to get famous — because you will never feel famous enough. Make gifts for people — and work hard on making those gifts in the hope that those people will notice and like the gifts.

A worthy goal for my summer is to create and share some of my work. I’m an Austin Kleon fan (he wrote “Keep Going” and Steal Like an Artist”), and the quote at the top of this entry, came to me one day through Austin’s newsletter. I do believe that one of the braver things we can do with our art, our talents and our work in general is to show up and to share. And make our contributions as carefully and mindfully as we would a gift to a friend. Not sharing to gain followers, get “likes”, or “build an audience”. Just sharing with the universe to see what happens. So this site is open for sharing as of today.

Sometimes It’s Just Magic

It’s not always that things work out without a lot of effort, but this image just sort of happened while exploring iColorama on my iPad. Started with an average lion photo from Pixabay and then just started layering, adjusting, styling and adding textures from the many options in the iColorama app.
You can easily lose an hour or two creating something with just this tool.

Created While Waiting on A Friend

One of the great things about the iPhone and camera apps is that you are never without a camera (unless you forget your phone, I guess…) and therefore, have no excuses especially if there is a garden center just down the way.

A lovely soft dahlia image, created with BlendCamera and adjusted with one of the default styles in the app. That’s all!

Study in Red

This started with a photo of a model in a red flowing dress. I added a fractal background made in FraxHD, created the “melting look” with Form>Sort feature in iColorama, then finished with metal textures from iColorama layered and masked on top.
Sort is one my favorite effects to play with and several apps have some form of “sort” as a texturing or distortion style that you can apply to the right photo.
